20534 - Tranquil Vale, Nos 45, 45a & 47

Grey's Oriental Stores - No 45 Tranquil Vale.

The shop was taken over by Mrs Gertrude Grey in 1901 and until 1940 oriental pottery, porcelain, lanterns, silk dressing gowns and other chinoiserie was on sale.

The second world war prevented supplies and the business closed.

It reopened as an antique shop "Two Steps" reuniting with No 47 in 1965.

It fell into disrepair but in 1982 opened as a branch of Furlongs, an estate agents.

The single story extension, 45a, was erected before the 1860s and used by a number of coal merchants as an order office before uniting with No 45 towards the end of the C19th. It has since separated iand is now occupied by an employment agency -, Village Staff.
