36000-017 Cricket on Blackheath, (Lew-Green)
Cricket was widely played on the Heath from the early C18th. The oldest club for which records survive was the Dartmouth CC, founded in 1829. In 1890 the LCC maintained 18 pitches for mens games and another 18 for boys' clubs. In the 1930s, nearly 30 pitches were laid out each season. The First World War saw the end of organised cricket on the Heath although some games took place between the wars. The occasional pitch is still sometimes laid out (2025)
