Blackheath Village 1910
Original photo by S. Phillips of Catford
On the right, at No 28 Tranquil Vale (now Greggs) is the clock erected on the parapet of Bennett's the clock makers. The Bennett name stayed over the door from 1840 to 1963, although the Bennett family had nothing to with the business after 1870.
The clock was taken down in 1910 for its first major overhaul after working well for 50 years. It continued to work well until 1945 when it was a casualty, together with the shop, of the V2 explosion in Blackheath Grove.
