Congregational Church Independents Road 1909.br/ br/ The plot for the Church was bought from the railway company in 1852 and was built in a quot;richly ornamented Gothic stylequot; in Kentish ragstone and topped by two 73 foot spires. It seated more than 1000 pople and had only seven ministers over its first hundred years.br/ br/ During the second world war, it was badly damaged. It was partly repaired but but in 1957 a new building was raised, using much of the original building materials, with the walls of the old building.br/ br/ The ecumenical movement saw the creation of the United Reform Church out of the congregations of the Presbyterian and Congregational churches and it finally closed for worship in 1974.br/ br/ Th chapel was bought by Watts and Partners who used it for offices. The church hall at the rear was refurbished and made suitable for a nursery school and it remains a Montessori Centre.
