This shows Noble and Benton at No 17 Tranquil Vale. Jonathan Collins, a tailor, traded here from 1832 to at least 1847. It then passed to a plumber and painter until about 1874.

In 1882 it became a greengrocery, under the Noble family, until 1934. Another greengrocer, Samuell, took the premises in 1937 and in 1946, the business was purchased by Fenner, under which name it traded until very recently. It is now "Village Fruit & Veg". A long history of fruit and veg!

To the left of the (gas) lamp-post is No 15 Tranquil Vale which has a history of butchery. John Willett traded here from about 1832 until 1851. In 1868, it was acquired by Thomas Daynes Wood whose name remained over the frontage until 1920.

In 1924 it closed as a butchery, briefly became an estate agency, but reopened as a restaurant. In 1935 it was the Pagoda Tea Shop and changed to Italian cuisine in 1969, La Cacciatora. In the mid 1970s, it became the Sun Bo.
